“The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time.”
– Abraham Lincoln
This is the time of year we make resolutions and set goals for ourselves. But it is also the time to reflect on all the things we did in the old year… the places we visited, events we participated in and work we accomplished.
In 2014 I read the book The Happiness Project, by Gretchen Rubin. It became the inspiration for many of my blogs. I consider myself a happy person. My blessings are abundant…. a loving family, enduring friendships, good health, great job and the ability to do most anything I want to do. Yet, The Happiness Project opened my eyes to ways I could do even more. It taught me how to spread/share happiness.
I highly recommend you add this easy read to your 2015 book list. If you are in a book club, it is a must because of the lively discussion it will encourage.
Here are the “Four Splendid Truths” Ms. Rubin puts forth:
- First Splendid Truth: To be happier, you have to think about feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right, in an atmosphere of growth.
- Second Splendid Truth: One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy; one of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself.
- Third Splendid Truth: The days are long, but the years are short.
- Fourth Splendid Truth: You’re not happy unless you think you’re happy. Corollary: You’re happy if you think you’re happy.
Can you see yourself adopting any of these “truths”? My resolution this year is to keep all four them in my mind and heart every day.
