The purpose of home staging is to draw buyers into your house emotionally. You want them to say, “Wow….. I want to live here!” Proper staging is key to attaining this reaction.
Experts are quick to acknowledge the owner’s presence must be as discreet as possible – meaning stage/decorate/declutter so potential buyers really can see your home as their home. Rooms have to feel inhabited, but they also need to clearly state their function.
Here are a few tips from stagers on what to do with unused space, usually the most difficult to stage. All it takes is a little creativity.
- Transform a small bedroom into a creative home office: Put in a desk, a couple of bookshelves, area rug, chair and side table.
- Convert a basement playroom: Make it a TV room or gym.
- Repurpose dead space: If your home is short on storage you can add an under-stair niche with shelving and stock the shelves with attractive boxes and bins.
